Where Business Meets Adventure: CEO Students Visit Haigh Quarry

Kankakee County CEO students stepped outside the classroom again this week for a unique business visit to Haigh Quarry, known as the “Caribbean of the Midwest.” Located right here in our community, this one-of-a-kind destination blends recreation, tourism, and entrepreneurship.

Owner Tina Haigh welcomed students and shared insights into operating a seasonal business. From managing weather-dependent operations to prioritizing safety, customer experience, and staffing, students gained a real-world look at what it takes to run a successful and sustainable business.

Students also learned about the quarry’s transformation into a freshwater diving destination, complete with snorkeling, scuba instruction, and a one-of-a-kind underwater experience.

Experiences like this continue to show our students the wide range of opportunities that exist right here in Kankakee County.

Thank you to Tina Haigh and the Haigh Quarry team for investing in our students and sharing your story!
